Overcoming Common Visa Barriers

High Rejection Rates for Global South Applicants

Many participants from low- and middle-income countries face higher scrutiny. To strengthen your application:

  • Provide a strong justification for return (e.g., employment letter, university enrollment certificate, proof of family ties).

  • Avoid incomplete or vague financial documentation—embassies need clear proof you can support your trip.

  • If your country is under travel sanctions or restrictions, seek legal advice or assistance from conference organizers.

Visa Interview Preparation (If Required)

Some embassies require an interview. Be prepared to answer:

  • What is the purpose of your trip?

  • Who is funding your participation?

  • What are your plans after the conference? (Emphasize your return home).

  • Why is this conference important for your career?

Handling Visa Delays or Denials

  • Apply well in advance—some embassies take 60+ days for processing.

  • If rejected, request a written reason for refusal and consider reapplying with stronger supporting documents.

  • Reach out to conference organizers for additional support or advocacy.
